Campaign news and rumors: Hewitt in the 89th; another Republican in the 7th

by: Eric B.

Sun Feb 07, 2010 at 10:09:08 AM EST

Arrrrrrgh, make the pain stop:

His platform includes calling for a part-time lawmakers, smaller state government, a right to work law and health care reform.

“Let’s stop trying to figure out how to pay for the problem and begin fixing the problem itself,” he said. “Inject common sense back into our health industry, not more government.”

The sign its time to run for the hills is when one of these people pops up and insists that it's time to inject common sense into something.

Meanwhile, a fourth Republican has jumped into the fray to fight over the chance to take on Mark Schauer. It appears that he plans to campaign a very principled race right up to the point of his utter crushing. If this is the Greg Merle I'm thinking of, I believe we're seeing the Sharon Renier of the 7th District Republicans start to spread his wings.

Update! ...Jocelyn Benson, candidate for secretary of state, has reportedly picked up the endorsements of the Democratic parties in Alger, Clare, Eaton and Isabella counties. Benson faces Detroit city clerk Janice Winfrey for the Democratic nod.

Think that the road to economic prosperity is to lower wages through right to work for a pittance laws. The stupid never stops, does it?

Sounds like this winner running as a Dem(?!) in Ypsilanti (0.00 / 0)
Mr. Dave Franklin, running as a democrat (see below for the hilarity of that) in Ypsilanti, MI for the House seat Alma Wheeler Smith is term-limited in.

This is taken from his open letter to the people of the 54th district, which should be read as an open insult to the intelligence of the the people of the 54th district.

With the aim of improving our current businesses and attracting new business, I will work alongside my fellow legislators to immediately remove all taxes and unnecessary regulations that have been directly responsible for the loss of jobs and the slow-down in economic growth. Any immediate loss of revenue will be offset by the increase in new industries and better paying jobs. Successful businesses must be our main priority. The result of this will increase demand for workers which will raise wages and improve benefits. As businesses grow, they will invest money for education and infrastructure improvement into the communities that support them.

Um? Sounds pretty much like classic Libertarianism to me. What party are you running with? It certainly doesn't sound like my Democratic party.

Excuse me, Eric (4.00 / 1)
If this is the Greg Merle I'm thinking of, I believe we're seeing the Sharon Renier of the 7th District Republicans start to spread his wings.

Greg Merle might be a little out there, but I'm still counting on Sharon Renier to be the Sharon Renier of the 7th District Republicans.

Renier, who has lost three consecutive bids for Congress and was twice the Democratic candidate in the 7th District, said she has had it with her party.

Renier said she plans to run for Congress again next fall - this time as a Republican.

"I am so fed up with the Democratic Party I can't stand it," she said. "I won't run as a Democrat again."
