isn't granting a monopoly to the utilities

following big business lobbies. i disagree totally with the granholm and dylan energy plan. putting michigan back under a monopoly is the worst of all worlds. why should we have to grant DTE a monopoly just to get a wind farm. makes no sense to me

And and even louder "HUZZAH!" to their parents who survived the first year of life with two infants.

While I'm enjoying the updates from Netroots Nation, I'm sure not sorry that I'm missing the heat. It rained a bit today and the temp is barey in the mid-80s. Woo-hoo!

I agree

I agree that the ability to recall a politician is very important. Taking away the people's voice and actions in our governmental system is never a good idea. I think it is often misused and thrown around, not to actually recall someone, but for interest groups to get what they want and often not the people living in the district of the legislator. So I would like to see a narrower definition of why a legislator can be recalled. So I guess were split up the middle on this RM.

A lot of elites want to eliminate recalls for most purposes

Many of the cocktail party and newspaper editor crowd don't want us rubes recalling politicians due to bad decisions made as they know what's best for us, not us. They say that it should only be for "malfeasense"(Sic) and want to use the same standards as impeachment. Never mind the fact that recalls are rare.
I'm 100% for having the recall as a tool. It's not easy to recall someone, but it is there if needed. I have a strong Jacksonian stance on this issue and I support checks and balances of the people against government. Eliminating checks and balances is not the way to go.

Al Gore Live at Netroots Nation

The MI contingent here at Netroots Nation in Austin, TX just got a surprise visit by Al Gore, who joined Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It was a great speech, with time for Q & A.
We learned a lot about Gore's new site - WeCanSolveIt.org - so definitely be sure to check that out - oh, and sorry kids, Al came out and said he definitely doesn't want a position in the new Administration - he wants to continue to work on Climate Change. :-)

For all the agony and pain

of high gas prices, I can't help but be really happy to see the changes happening all around us. Finally, some serious movement: People are taking the bus, people are biking, busineses are finding ways to go green, the plans to go to gas-less cars are ramping up big time.
It hit me hardest when I was commuting 85 miles a day. Why all this money for MI road construction and nothing for light rail? GR to Lansing (Detroit), GR to Muskegon (Ludington). Clean, safe, efficient, cheap. Jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs.
Get the gas, car, tire companies' grip off this issue and get it done already!
When I'm empress of the universe....

altered or abrogated

Because they are listed in the initiative!
Each section listed in the 2nd part of the initiative is either altered or abrogated by proposal....

abrogated
Repealed, annulled, canceled, abolished by authority.

If it wasn't supposed to be altered or abrogated, it shouldn't be listed. That's the requirement at Article XII Sec. 2.

Such proposed amendment, existing provisions of the constitution which would be altered or abrogated thereby, and the question as it shall appear on the ballot shall be published in full as provided by law.

Perhaps they didn't intend to list all these sections in the second part? That would be an egregious error by the drafters. As we will see in the next installment, there are some more interesting mistakes!
